As part of British Science Week Acorns were visited by Kieran and his virtual reality headsets! We had to put the headsets to our eyes when Kieran told us too and were guided through the ocean on an adventure. We learnt lots about coral, jellyfish and whale sharks. What a wonderful opportunity for us all and a fab end to Science week!
As part of our science week learning Miss Humphrey helped Acorns to investigate apples. We first described the apples from the outside, using our senses to think about their colour, texture and scent. We then used string and rulers to measure the circumference of the apples (a new word to add to our scientific vocabulary!) comparing their sizes. We then took a close look at what the apple core looked like and discussed what happens to the seeds. We put the apple core into a plastic bag and will observe any changes of time, linking to this years science week theme.
During Science Week Acorns loved mixing up their own potions in the garden using a range of coloured water, flavourings, foam , sand and soap flakes. They observed what happened including colour changes, bubbles and changes in texture too.
The theme of this year’s British Science Week is time. Acorns enjoyed reading Seren’s Seasons and then challenged the children to independently write their own sentence about a season.
Rochester Cathedral Trip
Acorns learned about being a police office and dog handling from Henley's dad.
Acorns visited 'Beechfields' and read their reading books to the elderly residents. We also visited the, again at Christmas to sing Christmas carols.
