Dear Parents and Governors
I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you all. I am a familiar face to some of you as I have been a governor at the school since September 2010 including 5 years as Chair of Governors. Last year I had to stand down from my responsibilities because of family illness. However, such was the attraction of working with such a lovely school community, I rejoined the governing body as soon as I could.
My husband and I have lived in Eastling for 24 years and have always taken an interest in the school. We have strong links with our village church and you may have seen us helping out with the special services in the church at harvest time, Christmas and for the leavers’ service in the summer. It is a great shame that these cannot take place this year because of the Covid restrictions but let us hope that it is not too long before we can share these experiences once more. In the past I have taken assemblies in school and also really enjoyed coming in to see each class present their work in many highly creative ways to their parents at the class assemblies.
I was a teacher all my working life, latterly in a very large all girls secondary school so it is very rewarding to be involved in a small school where all the staff know each child’s name. I am part of the Standards. Learning and Teaching monitoring group and, .this academic year, have a role as the Training and Development Governor. At our last meeting it was good to see details of how the ‘catch up’ curriculum has been working and how much progress the children had already made by the end of term 1. The opportunities that the children of Eastling School are offered are amazing. In these difficult times it has been particularly gratifying that after school and lunchtime clubs are still running and that the emphasis on outdoor learning has been maintained. I am certainly looking forward to visiting the mud kitchen as soon as possible.
As governors we know how important the support of parents is to their children’s education and we are grateful to each one of you for the support you offer. The dedicated team of FOES works so hard to provide some of the extras that the school needs. I know that they are always looking for new parents to join the team. I would also like to say a special thank you to Mrs Dale and all the staff at Eastling for giving 110% of their time and energy to ensure that the children’s experience at school during the Covid restrictions is safe and secure whilst continuing the creative, inspiring teaching that this school is recognised for offering. The fact that the attendance figures for the school have been above 96% shows how much the children and their parents appreciate all the hard work that has been undertaken. I am proud to be a governor at the school and hope that I can continue to make a positive contribution in the future.
