Dear Parents and Governors,

I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce myself to you all. I joined the Board of Governors this year after retiring from what has been a busy and very varied working life.  This has ranged from Publishing, Advertising and Media, to my final 25years when I have been a Teacher of Technology (Resistant Materials, Food and Textiles) then later, of Food and Nutrition and English.  In my spare time, when I am not enjoying myself with my family who include 5 grandchildren, I am an avid reader, an enthusiastic cook and I am also a listening volunteer for The Samaritans.

My husband and I have lived in Eastling for 37 years and have always taken an interest in the school with my elder daughter attending back in 1985, my husband being a governor between 2010 and 2016 and my youngest granddaughter a current pupil.  I have taught in several local secondary schools, finishing my career as Head of Food and Nutrition at Cranbrook School. My husband is a member of Eastling Parish Council.

Upon retiring, I was very keen to continue my links with education and when I heard that there was a Governor position available at Eastling School, I jumped at the opportunity.  After teaching ‘big kids’ in large schools for so long, the opportunity to be involved with the lower Key Stages in my own village school was irresistible.

I am part of the Standards, Learning and Teaching monitoring group with a focus on Writing, Presentation and Reading.  However, I have a broad interest across the school curriculum and hope that my working life experiences will be widely drawn upon. The opportunities that the children of Eastling School are offered are impressive. In these difficult times teachers and staff have worked under impossible conditions and I am impressed at the variety of extra-curricular activities that are available to the children. I am really looking forward to getting to know the amazing staff and wonderful children who make up the Eastling School Community.

And this leads me to say that I am also looking forward to meeting you as parents. Your commitment to the school is evident from the statistics for attendance, which are impressive, and from the support of the dedicated parents who form FOES and who do so much to support the school.

I am happy to have been given the opportunity to join The Board of Governors at Eastling School and look forward to working alongside you all.
