Dear Parents & Carers,

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself to those of you that don’t know me.  My name is Catherine Mitchell and I’m the newly elected Co-Opted Governor for Eastling primary.  Both of my younger children attend the school, Amelie Mitchell in year 5 and Morgan Mitchell in year 2.  I also have two older children Holly who is 18 and in her second year studying Art & Graphic Design and my oldest son James who is in year 11 at Fulston Manor.

Although I’m a new governor to Eastling, I do have 14 years of experience in governance, I started as a parent governor when my eldest was 4, both of my eldest children grew up and left their primary school but I stayed!  I then became Co-Opted governor and then Chair, which is the position I still hold.  I hope this experience will help me to undertake my governance role with you to the best of my ability and feel it is also beneficial as both schools are part of the same collaboration.

For me I believe education to be extremely important and it is paramount to get that right at primary level.  These are the building blocks for the foundation of learning and as we see our KS1 children progress to be confident KS2 pupils who are then ready to take on the massive changes to life at KS3.

On a personal level I have just retrained as a mature student at Hadlow to become a florist, I also breed Pygmy Goats on our family farm.  I really enjoy physical activity and train in both Karate and Kick Boxing where I am a 1st Dan Blackbelt in both disciplines, I am currently working towards my 2nd Dan in Karate.  We train as a family and Amelie is two belts away from her blackbelt, Morgan has just joined team Mitchell but mostly enjoys anything farm related!

I hope this information gives those of you who don’t already know me a better insight of myself and that I can be an asset to an already strong and confident Governing Body.

Kind Regards

Catherine Mitchell

Co-Opted Governor
