Parental Consultation 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Consultation on Eastling Primary School's PSHE and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) Curriculum
At Eastling Primary School, our vision is for every child to grow, learn and flourish socially, emotionally and academically within a nurturing and supportive community. We believe that education is about far more than academic achievement; it is about preparing children to become confident, resilient, respectful and responsible citizens who are equipped to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our school values of kindness, respect, honesty, collaboration, perseverance and excellence underpin everything we do and are at the heart of our approach to Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) and Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE).
As part of our commitment to providing the very best education for our pupils, we are reviewing and updating our PSHE and RSHE provision following the updated statutory framework for implementation from September 2026.
The Department for Education requires all primary schools to teach statutory Relationships Education and Health Education. These subjects play a vital role in supporting children's personal development, wellbeing, safety and understanding of the world around them. Through this learning, children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to build positive relationships, stay safe, make informed decisions, manage their emotions and become active, responsible members of society.
As part of this review process, schools are required to consult with parents and carers on their RSHE policy. We recognise that parents and carers are children's first educators and that effective relationships between home and school are essential in supporting children as they grow and learn. We therefore greatly value your views and welcome your feedback before the policy is finalised.
Over the past year, we have carefully reviewed a range of PSHE and RSHE programmes to ensure that our curriculum reflects current statutory guidance, supports safeguarding and meets the needs of our pupils. Following this review, we have selected 1decision as the foundation of our PSHE and RSHE curriculum from September 2026.
We have chosen 1decision because it:
Our curriculum will cover three key areas:
Relationships Education
Children will learn about families and the people who care for them, caring friendships, respectful relationships, online relationships and how to stay safe. They will develop an understanding of kindness, empathy, respect and the importance of healthy relationships throughout their lives.
Health Education
Children will learn about physical and mental wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, personal hygiene, healthy eating, physical activity, online wellbeing, first aid and how to keep themselves safe. They will develop the knowledge and skills needed to make positive choices that support their health and wellbeing.
Personal, Social and Economic Education
Children will develop important life skills including resilience, emotional literacy, responsibility, citizenship, financial awareness, decision-making and an understanding of their role within the wider community.
At Eastling Primary School, all learning will be delivered in an age-appropriate, inclusive and sensitive manner. Lessons will be adapted to meet the needs of our pupils and will always be underpinned by our school values and commitment to safeguarding.
As a primary school, Relationships Education and Health Education are statutory. Sex Education beyond the National Curriculum for Science is not statutory in primary schools. Eastling Primary School's proposed programme does not include explicit teaching about sexual activity. Any learning about growing and changing will be delivered sensitively, factually and in an age-appropriate way, with a clear focus on children's understanding of their own development, wellbeing and safety.
As part of this consultation, we have enclosed:
We encourage you to read these documents carefully and share your views with us. Your feedback will help inform the final version of our policy before implementation in September 2026.
The consultation period will run from 19.06.2026 until 03.07.2026. Feedback can be submitted via email to the school office. Should you have any questions about the curriculum, the consultation process or any aspect of the proposed programme, please do not hesitate to contact the school. We are committed to working in partnership with families to ensure that our children receive a high-quality PSHE and RSHE education that supports them to thrive both now and in the future.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement in this important aspect of school life.
Yours sincerely,
Victoria Waugh

Mental Health and Wellbeing Survey January 2025
Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to invite you to participate in an important survey about mental health and wellbeing at our school. At Eastling Primary School, we believe that supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of our school community is fundamental to our children's success and happiness. As part of our commitment to mental health, we are conducting a parent/carer survey to better understand your views on:
● How we support your child's wellbeing
● Our school's mental health environment and culture
● Communication between home and school
● The relationships within our school community
Your feedback is invaluable and will help us:
● Enhance our mental health and wellbeing support
● Improve how we communicate with families
● Strengthen our school-home partnership
● Make informed decisions about future wellbeing initiatives
The survey is completely anonymous and should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. If you have more than one child at our school, we encourage you to complete the survey for each child separately, as their experiences may differ. Please complete the survey by Friday, 7th February 2024. Your responses will directly influence how we develop and improve our approach to supporting mental health and wellbeing across our school community.
Yours sincerely
V.Waugh
